USES
Tungsten is an effective hardening element for Platinum. Pt/W offers visibility under x-rays.
MANUFACTURING CHARACTERISTICS
Platinum tungsten has become the mainstay material for most current coil designs due to its optimal level of strength.
APPLICATIONS
Platinum tungsten alloys are used in biomedical applications as well as electrical contact materials. For example, Pt/W has been used as a guidewire in balloon catheters to assist in the positioning of a catheter to the treatment site. Catheter tips are often made of Platinum Tungsten. Other applications include, electrophysiology, neuorlogical catheter devices, aneurism tip coils, feed-through wires and pacemakers.
