Preforms

P&I BRAZING PREFORMS

A brazing preform is a high quality, precision metal stamping cut from brazing tape and used for a variety of metal joining applications. Preform brazing has become a staple for many OEM manufacturers because of their ease of use, consistency, quality and productivity in metal joining applications.

The Benefits of Brazing Preforms

1. Elimination of costly hand feed operations

2. Accurate control of brazing alloy volume resulting in consistent and cost effective joints

3. Access to automated brazing and soldering systems

4. Uniform wetting and smooth joint appearance

The Prince and Izant Company also forms rings and preforms from tempered wire as well as customer supplied materials. Please reference our Engineering Support - Ring Design Steps to learn more about how P&I customizes parts to fit your needs.

BRAZING PREFORM TYPES

Ring Coiling

P&I ring coiling operates on an individual customer order basis. Each order is statistically controlled (S.P.C) to provide quality assurance to customer exacting specifications. Lead times are generally one to two weeks on orders anywhere in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

LAP RINGS

Lap rings are formed with an overlap to allow compression cling onto a fitting

MULTI-TURN RINGS

Multi-turn rings are used when a joint requires a volume of braze alloys that cannot be provided by a single turn ring

BUTT END RINGS

Butt end rings will not tangle, and lie flat without Helix

SEGMENT OR ARC RINGS

Ring segments can be formed to any degree of a circle and provide snap fit into a fitting

O.D. GAP RINGS

O.D. gap rings allow expansion cling where and internal placement of braze alloy is crucial

EDGEWOUND

Edgewounds are economical alternative to a washer and are made by winding flattened wire on its edge

 Stamped Preforms

We manufacture custom stamped preforms from over 1,000 tools already on our shelves. If we need to develop new tooling, our precision in-house machine keeps cost and lead-time to a minimum.

SLUGS

Slugs are normally the most economical preform to manufacture. The can be made from any brazing wire and cut to required length.

WASHERS, DISCS & SHIMS

Washers, discs & shims are fabricated from brazing alloy strip and used where joint clearances prevent the use of wire preforms.

MULTI-SLIDE PARTS

Multi-slide parts are made from brazing wire and strip by forming into an infinite variety of configurations to meet customer application requirements.

COLD-HEADED PARTS

Cold-headed parts are primarily in spherical or disc shape. These parts are used in joints of limited access that require a large volume of alloy.
